Shibari Shawn founded the House of Knotty in 2023. He is a gay kinbaku artist and rope bondage educator living in Seattle. He is one of the co-organizers of RopeLab: Seattle, a monthly men’s rope group for intermediate to advanced riggers tying on the masculine form. He is an associate member of the Chicago Hellfire Club and chair of the education committee for the MenRopingMen conference. He is also a member of Suspended Animation and participated in Burning Man 2023.

He started working with rope bondage in 2016 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a rope group called Friction Iowa. In 2019 he started teaching rope bondage workshops through the Homer Shibari Dojo in Homer, Alaska. Since then Shibari Shawn has been passionate about deinstagraming, demystifying, and decolonizing rope bondage instruction while simultaneously injecting queer history and uplifting the underrepresented and marginalized population of “tying on the masculine form”.  He has lead rope workshops and classes at:
